![]() ReflexologyWhat is Reflexology?Reflexology is a holistic science which deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body. Stimulating these reflexes properly can help many health problems in a natural way, a type of preventative maintenance as well as reacting to any new problems. It deals with the person as a whole looking at causes of problems rather than just the symptoms. Why Reflexology? Many people use reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting stress, at the same time many doctors, consultants and other health care professionals recognise reflexology as a well established, respected and effective therapy. Reflexology is a serious advance in the health field and should not be confused with massage. How Can it Help? Response to Reflexology? After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very definite way. Most people note a sense of well-being and relaxation; sometimes people report feeling lethargic, nauseous or tearful, but this is transitory and is a part of the healing process. The healing process should not last longer than 48 hours. This is vital information to feed back to me as it shows how your body is responding to treatment. This will help me to tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs. ![]() Maternity ReflexologyI have undertaken a comprehensive course which was run by Denise Tiran's company called 'Expectancy Ltd'. It is aimed at complementary health professionals wanting to have an integrated approach to to the care of pregnant and childbearing women. It enables complementary therapists to have an in-depth understanding of the conventional medical practices for pregnancy and labour and the physiological and anatomical changes that occur. With this understanding I am able to practice complementary therapies in a considered and informed manner.I have already completed a course called 'Natural Pain Relief During labour' course which was also run by Expectancy. For more information on Expectancy please Expenctancy Bringing Reflexology and Doula skills TogetherI believe that using complementary therapies through the pregnancy will alter the perception of pain and the mother an baby will have a far more relaxed experience. In October 2005 I undertook a Reflexology course to specialise in pre-conception, pregnancy and labour. This was run by Moshe Kruchik at the Oxford School of Reflexology. He is world renowned in being a Reflexology Doula which made this course especially interesting to me and beneficial to my clients.
