FAQ #01

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Complementary mean?
Reflexology is a complimentary therapy. This means I work together with the 'regular' medical profession to help someone with particular issues/conditions. However, not everyone who comes to see me has to have a condition which has been diagnosed by a doctor. A number of my clients are people who live stressful lives and use reflexology to maintain wellbeing.

Can you diagnose my problems through reflexology?
No, as a reflexologist we do not diagnose symptoms. I can say where there are issues and work with you to help resolve them, and if necessary, refer you onto someone who can give a precise medical diagnosis such as your GP or someone else from the complementary health arena.

Can I have a Reflexology session if I am Diabetic?
Yes I will treat anyone living with any condition as long as it is not contagious. With diabetics, I ask them to check their blood sugar 30 minutes after a session in case of low blood glucose levels. They must bring a suitable form of quick acting glucose with them for each session.

Can I have a Reflexology session if I have Veruccas or Corns?
Yes but I will cover the verucca's over with a plaster. However, if the verucca is sore to the touch it may be wise to wait until it has gone as the session may become painful.

Can you treat my child?
Children do benefit greatly from reflexology. I will treat any child over the age of seven. However, I would require the parent/legal guardian to sign a consent form before we begin any sessions.

Can I have Hand Reflexology Instead?
Yes of course. If there is some reason you would prefer I worked on your hands then that is no problem. Working with the hands is less precise, as it is a smaller area, but great results can still be gained.

The doctors do not know why I cannot conceive - can you help?
I have a client who has been told this and I have worked with them, the family and the medical profession, together achieving the dream of having a baby.

Is it safe to have reflexology in the first 3 months of pregnancy?
Yes as I have recieved specialised training in this area.

How will reflexology help with my pregnancy?
It can help in many ways to relieve the symptoms of pregnancy such as morning sickness, backache, stress and tiredness.

How will reflexology help with my labour?
There are studies out to show that women who are in a relaxed state of mind and body have a better labour and the baby is also born more relaxed. Studies have also shown that the time during labour is shortened. To find out more Click here

When should I enquire or book a Doula?
It is better if you start enquiring as early as possible so interviews can take place and a Doula booked in well in advance. This will also give time to build a solid relationship between Doula and parents. However, this is not always possible, so if available, a Doula may be there at very short notice.

Does it matter if I want a C-Section?
I will not influence your final decision on the birth that you desire. I will offer support both emtionally and physically throughout the process and make it a positive experience.

Do you have a written contract?
I do not have a written contracts for births as it is a flat fee.

How do the payments work?
After the interview and you confirm you'd like me to be your doula I require a deposit. This ensures that I book out the two weeks before your due date and the two weeks afterwards. If for some reason you decide to change your mind then the deposit is non-refundable. The balance of the payment is due on the first visit after the birth.
